Viola Odorata

The last day of march, I noticed him in my garden, the Sweet Violet.
In Holland the flower is named after the month of March, named March Violet, (Maarts viooltje), or in latin Viola Odorata.
The scent of the violet is lovely.
It is nice that it blossoms just in time in March and not April.

Ladybird running

This is not the first ladybird, I saw this year.
however because of the long winter they stayed in hiding-mode.

This one looks like running on a highway trying to catch up with spring.

hailstone drops

Suddenly there were hailstones falling down.
In the pond they jumped up and down like a dance.

Buds

Suddenly spring is rushing
as if it wants to catch up with the delayed time (of the freezing).

two robins

Yesterday I saw two robins together.
But when I catched one, the other one fled.
Probably the mating has already begun!
However the coming days, temperatures will drop below zero.

Nuthatch constructionwork

The nuthatch has begun to rebuild the entrance of the house.
He aways first does some construction work to the door,
before he builds his family.
Last year he also had a family in this house
Not long ago a friend of mine (M) cleaned the house, to get rid of flees or other critters.
so that the house would be available again for new breed.
So nice to see him again!

Finch

Some days ago, again a bird crashed against the window.
This time a male finch.
He was in shock for a long time.
Again I had picked him up from the cold ground and put him on a table.

I could see he was doing better after a while.
I was happy he was able to fly away again!

Walking on water (Ice)

Robin dared to walk on the frozen pond.
It looks like he is walking on water.
Maybe he is.
It takes courage to walk on unknown paths you never have been before.

Turtles sitting in the sun

Yesterday there were two turtles sitting in the arch of the beech.
Enjoying the sun rays while it is freezing cold, with lots of icy wind.

Today they were sitting there again!
This time close and warm together.

Dozing away in the warm sun rays
and so now and then looking up what's going on around.
It looks like they enjoy it very much!
Maybe they don't bother much the cold freezing temperature.

Fieldfare, Turdus Pilaris, Kramsvogel

Today I saw the Fieldfare, (Turdus Pilaris), (Kramsvogel)
again.
He was searching for more apples, but they ate them all yesterday.
I think he forgot.
He tried to pick on some spots where an apple had been.
Just a little something might still be there.

Then I had an idea.
In my fridge I have some apples!
What if I put them out in the tree?
Would that be a surprise?
So I did. I put the apples out in the tree and waited.
Nothing there, but after some time he came and looked!
Picked!!!!
